July 1st marked exactly nine months since the infamous government shutdown of 2013. While the dust from the drama has settled, an unexpected side effect is popping up in Washington, D.C.- area hospitals.
It appears that during their 16-day hiatus, government workers were busy making babies.
Sibley Hospital in Northwest D.C. has delivered an average of three more babies per day than they did at this time last year, WNEW reported. One family said it was told by the hospital that there was no room in the maternity ward prior to it arriving for a scheduled induction.
NBC News’ Brian Williams reported on the baby boom, but he couldn’t let it go without a fantastically executed sex joke. The situation was just too perfect to pass up.
“How long until someone on television points out that during the shutdown the folks in Washington are apparently doing at home what Washington has been accused of doing to the American people?” Williams said on NBC.
Well, someone had to say it.
