Hillary Clinton made excuses for Bill Clinton when women accused Bill Clinton of sexual wrongdoing — including sexual assault and rape. Further, she and the Clinton team used the media to smear Bill Clinton’s accusers. Red Alert’s Ryan Girdusky documented the 20+ times this happened.
Defending Bill Clinton’s actions is objectively worse than the words said by Donald Trump in 2005. Actions are worse than words, and Hillary Clinton’s words smearing victims of sexual assault are also worse than Trump’s comments and make her unfit for any political office.
But, Republicans should not follow Hillary Clinton’s lead and make excuses for Trump’s disgusting comments. Just because the Clintons’ conduct is worse does not make Trump’s behavior acceptable.
Condoning sexual assault as a joke and defending sexual assault in reality make both candidates unfit for office. Further, Trump’s non-apology statement — saying “I apologize if anyone was offended” — shows a genuine lack of remorse. Many Republicans could probably forgive Trump’s error if he sincerely apologized. We’ve all made mistakes, although we hope most of us haven’t joked about sexual assault.
Most Trump supporters defending him are doing so because they would do anything to stop Hillary Clinton from winning. Similarly, Hillary Clinton defended Bill Clinton because she would do anything to stay in power.
Republicans shouldn’t compromise principle and decency to gain political power. That is the Clinton Way. Trump’s comments, and his other past comments insulting all sorts of people, do not represent the true principles of the Republican Party, and if this Party wants to survive after 2016, they will stop making excuses for Trump’s behavior.
