Presidential hopeful Sen. Rand Paul continues to strive for the youth vote, announcing a new plan to organize students just in time for back-to-school season.
Paul’s campaign released a video introducing the ‘Students for Rand Initiative,’ with a goal of organizing student groups on 300 campuses in the next 30 days.
“[We] are uniquely positioned to appeal to young voters, which we will heavily engage over the next few months,” Paul said in a statement provided to CNN. “No candidate will do more to earn support from students than our campaign.”
Paul could use the boost of support. He has slumped in the polls, overshadowed by the many other candidates in the Republican field. He has recently resorted to attacking GOP frontrunner Donald Trump to try to raise his profile.
Aside from campaigning on college campuses, Paul has made a distinct effort to enhance his digital strategy in order to reach out to young voters. He is one of the only candidates using Snapchat, he campaigned at the South by Southwest tech conference in Austin earlier this year, and he has established a campaign office in Austin, with plans to open another in Silicon Valley.
