Trump card: Donald Trump gets invited to CPAC 2013

In a dramatic turn of events, the American Conservative Union has invited Donald Trump to speak at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference.

“Donald Trump is an American patriot and success story with a massive following among small government conservatives,” said ACU Chairman Al Cardenas in a press release sent out on Tuesday. “I look forward to welcoming him back to the CPAC stage next week. Mr. Trump’s previous CPAC appearance was hugely popular among our attendees and we expect it will be even more popular this year.”

After deciding not to invite New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — citing the Republican’s “limited future” in the GOP — the ACU is ruffling feathers by extending an invitation to the businessman and TV personality.

The ACU has also prevented LGBT groups, such as GOProud and the Log Cabin Republicans, from sponsoring the conference, a move that resulted in MSNBC-ers Chris Hayes and S.E. Cupp rejecting their invitations to speak.

Following the announcement, Twitter erupted with outraged, confused and sarcastic responses.
