Bartending is one of the few careers college students can turn to make enough money to live and pay for school. However, they may be facing the same crisis that has hit so many other industries.
Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas has unveiled a new bar that’s completely operated by robots, reported The Las Vegas Sun. It’s the first fully operated robotic bar, but it will not be the last.
“My partners and I decided to do something to create a new trend so we can be ahead of time. So, this is a gift from us to the city of Las Vegas,” said the bar owner Rino Armeni to the Sun.
Customers place their order on a tablet and check on how long it’s going to take to make while they add their credit card number and email address.
Robots can pick from 60 different kinds of liquors and take about a minute to make the drink, as well as being able to add lemon, limes, sugar, juices, or sodas.
The owner said that the robots are mostly a themed attraction so people come and visit the bar. A human operated bar exists on the other side of the room.
While it’s possible that the robots will cost far too much money for the average dive bar or local watering hole, this could become a standard in most major cities like Las Vegas, New York, Miami, or Los Angeles.
Bartending used to be one of the few professions that was automation proof, but it begs the question is will it be safe from robots? What’s next, the automated stripper?
