Carly Fiorina made official her 2016 bid for president during an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Monday.
“I am running for president,” the former Hewlett-Packard CEO told ABC News host George Stephanopoulos.
“I think I am the best person for the job because I understand how the economy actually works,” Fiorina declared. “I understand the world, who’s in it, how the world works.”

The GOP presidential candidate also spoke of her knowledge of bureaucracies, labeling the federal government “a giant, bloated, unaccountable, corrupt bureaucracy.”
“I understand technology, which is a tool to both reimagine government and and to reengage citizens in the process of government,” Fiorina continued. “And, I understand executive decision making, which is making a tough call in a tough time with high stakes for which you’re prepared to be held accountable.”
Fiorina, who has never held elected office, insisted that the country doesn’t need a “professional political class” and that Americans are in fact tired of electing professional politicians who don’t deliver.
The former Hewlett-Packard executive also took a jab at the other female candidate in the race for the White House, Hillary Clinton, casting her as dishonest.
“I have a lot of admiration for Hillary Clinton, but she clearly is not trustworthy, has not been transparent about a whole set of things that matter,” alleged Fiorina, citing the Democratic presidential candidate’s private e-mail scandal and the Clinton Foundation’s suspect acceptance of foreign donations as reasons enough for the American people not to trust Hillary.
Fiorina also released her official campaign launch video Monday, which shows the former CEO watching Hillary Clinton’s own campaign advertisement and labeling the former secretary of State a member of the “professional political class.”
“If you believe that it’s time to stand up to the political class and say enough, then join us,” Fiorina says in the clip.
Fiorina joins the GOP race just hours after Dr. Ben Carson, who made his announcement in an interview with a local Ohio television station Sunday.
Fiorina’s competition within her own party also includes Sens. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio. In addition to Hillary Clinton, Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders is officially running for the White House as a Democrat.
