Liberals cry ‘Gotcha!’ Ben Carson used aborted fetus tissue for research purposes

Despite his strongly pro-life views, Ben Carson is facing criticism for medical research he conducted with tissue from aborted fetuses.

A blog post by Obstetrician and Gynecologist Jen Gunter pointed out that, in 1992, Carson co-authored a paper where tissue from fetuses were used. He has defended fetal tissue research as neither useless nor immoral.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Carson said that “If you’re killing babies and taking the tissue, that’s a very different thing than taking a dead specimen and keeping a record of it.”

Carson pointed to the useful information that comes from studying fetal tissue, and has been reluctant to condemn fetal tissue research so long as the tissue remains available.

He still favors defunding Planned Parenthood.

On his Facebook page, he denounced “an attack launched on me today by the left and the media.”

Carson clarified that “The fetal tissue that was viewed in this study by others was not collected for this study,” and claimed that “it simply is not true” that he did “research on fetal tissue.”
