UPDATED: After several Occupy DC members complained to Red Alert Politics that they felt parts of this story were inaccurate, Red Alert wrote the following piece.
Occupy DC managed to survive the winter tearing up Washington, D.C.’s McPherson Square and filling the nation’s capital with the odor of a barnyard. It even managed to harbor shooter who fired a shot at the White House last November.
The U.S. Park Police swept through the encampment located along K Street, where most of the city’s major lobbying firms are located, on horseback and with riot gear in early February to enforce the law banning camping in the park and swept them from the park.
But now Occupy DC is linking up with other Occupy groups and starting something called the National Occupation of Washington that plans to kickoff at noon Friday in nearby Franklin Square and march along with former Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader. to the Environmental Protection Agency headquarters to protest its treatment of whistleblowers.
The group has obtained permit from the U.S. Park Police to hold events in Franklin Square for one month.
Their permit, lasting March 30, 2012 through April 30, 2012, allows them to have:
1. Four 10’ x 10’ tents.
2. A small generator.
3. Four tables and chairs.
4. A small sound system with speakers.
But they are prohibited from camping overnight (except for their overnight security) and interfering with pedestrian traffic in the park.
Conservative investigative journalist Cliff Kincaid, president of America’s Survival, chastised the U.S. Park Police for granting the permit and accused it of playing politics by bending the rules to allow the Occupy movement to continue disrupting commerce in the nation’s capital.
“This is just another example of how the park police are breaking the laws in order to accommodate Occupy,” Kincaid said, referring to the U.S. Park Police’s refusal to enforce the ban on camping in public parks in the nation’s capital for months prior to the February action. “We saw how they violated laws Freedom Plaza and in McPherson Square before they were moved out.
“It looks like the Park Police are moving them into yet another place they can trash. The are bent giving them permits no matter how many properties they can damage.”
Business groups have consistently voiced their opposition to Occupy’s presence at McPherson Square because it drives away business, but the authorities have not listened, unlike in other cities around the country.
The group plans to hold information sessions at its NOW DC Social Forum on topics like “Election Theft 101,” “Occupy Trading Cards,” and “From Tahrir Square to Liberty Square: Building a movement to end the war for empire”, the last of which will be directed by the neo-Stalinist ANSWER Coalition, according to its website.
These actions are part of what the Occupiers are calling the “American Spring.”
“Many in the corporate media like to think the Occupy is over, but those of us involved know better,” Occupier Kevin Zeese wrote in an entry on the NOWDC.org website. “We do not rely on the corporate media to validate the work of Occupy, we see it in our communities. And, we know to look to our own media for accurate information.
“The Occupied Wall Street Journal reports on the actions of the Occupy, it’s weekly ‘Reports from the Front Lines’ is something many of us look forward to so we can see the movement taking action across the country.”
Occupy has diminished in overt numbers over the last few months due to attrition, but former communist and watchdog of the left David Horowitz told Red Alert Politics that he is not surprised by this turn of events.
Occupy represents the “permanent movement of the communist left”, according to Horowitz.
“The left has been regrouping since the collapse of the Soviet Union and it has grown stronger by the decade,” Horowitz said. “The first manifestation was the anti-globalization movement, and the environmental movement also is a key to its regeneration.
“They are all the same people basically,” Horowitz continued. “The anti-globalization movement wants to destroy the international capitalist system.”
The radicals further metamorphosed following the Iraq War into what Horowitz calls an “unholy alliance between the Islamofascists and the secular left, and it has taken advantage of the financial meltdown to bring about the third major renaissance of the Communist movement since the 1930s.
“They are tactically opportunist,” Horowitz said. “Occupy Wall Street is really Occupy everywhere.
“Why do they need a pretext?” Horowitz continued. “The left is at war with America.”
NOW DC, Barack Obama and the Democratic Party are cut out of the same cloth.
According to Horowitz, the left learned that it had to infiltrate institutions and take them over from within and not to impose socialism in one foul swoop as a result of the lessons they learned from Saul Alinsky during the 1960s.
“The Democratic Party is essentially the Progressive Party of 1948 , controlled by the Communists,” Horowitz said.
According to former KGB Major General Oleg Kalugin, who worked in Soviet espionage operations against the United States in the 1960s and 1970s, the Progressive Party was controlled by Moscow.
Fellow ex-communist turned conservative activist Ron Radosh said this move is part of a wider effort by the Occupy movement to “resurrect’ and refocus its attention.
The Nation magazine published an expose of articles by key leftists recently that Radosh says lays out the blueprint for the movement’s future in an edition titled “Occupy Spring”.
“They want to stop the government from trying to crackdown on those defaulting their student loans by telling [people] to stop paying their student loans,” Radosh said. “That way they would bring down the banking system.”
Kincaid suggests that the Obama administration has a political agenda involved with keeping Occupy DC around and in helping the movement.
“It is part of an effort keep his (Obama’s) ase happy and use this, and they want to disrupt the Republican National Convention Tampa as a weapon to make the Republicans look like the fat cat party,” Kincaid said.
