Americans for Limited Government’s “If I Wanted America to Fail” web ad campaign, being run through its Free Market America project, effectively highlights the Obama administration’s hostility to American prosperity – especially on energy policy.
“If I wanted America to despair, not dream,” the narrator says. “I’d start with energy.” The video charges without explicitly naming Obama that he aims to undermine Americans’ use of fossil fuels by making them feel guilty about it and to indoctrinate young Americans into thinking its use will cause a “new ice age.”
“I would never teach children that the free market is the only force in history to uplift the poor and establish the middle class,” the spot continues. “Instead, I’d demonize prosperity itself. “I’d ridicule those as ‘flat earthers’ those who argue that you can reduce energy prices by increasing supply.”
It concludes by an effective emotional argument that labels radical environmentalism as being part of a “suicide pact” and suggests that convincing Americans that this is for the “greater good” is how it will succeed.
