Kasich says he doesn’t want to legalize marijuana despite it being profitable

Ohio Gov. John Kasich announced during the CNBC GOP debate on Wednesday that he would not support legalizing pot like the state of Colorado, even if it increased tax revenue.

Kasich, who lambasted candidates like Donald Trump and Ben Carson for not being intellectually serious made his case that the government can stop drugs.

“Sending mix signals to kids about drugs is a disaster,” Kasich said. “Drugs is one of the greatest scourges in this country. I spent five years of my administration working with my team doing a whole sort of things to try to reign in the problems of overdoses.”

Colorado made $150 million in tax revenue from legalizing pot, but Kasich said that he doesn’t need to focus on new revenue streams because Ohio has a $2 billion surplus.
