If you couldn’t get enough of the Internal Revenue Services’ “Star Trek” and “Gilligan’s Island” themed videos, there’s good news. The Government Services Administration has a slew of their own movie-themed clips – created all on the taxpayers’ dime.
According to The Washington Examiner, the parody scenes, which are based on movies like “Mission Impossible,” “The Godfather” and “Rocky,” were unveiled to the public Tuesday thanks to a Freedom of Information Act request submitted by the conservative watchdog group, Judicial Watch. The group was tipped off by GSA whistleblower Linda Shenwick.
One video features costumed GSA officials and employees taking part in “Jeopardy,” while another features officials and employees running through the corridors of the organization’s headquarters and the streets of New York to the theme song from the film “Rocky.”
“This latest round of extravagant and embarrassing GSA videos is further evidence of a bloated federal government completely out of control,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton told The Washington Examiner. “Clearly the new administrator [Daniel Tangherlini] will have his work cut out for him if this pattern of preposterous waste is to be curtailed.”
The videos had been removed last year after an inspector general report revealed the organization had spent taxpayer money on a 2010 $800,000 training conference in Las Vegas, complete with a mind reader, bicycle giveaways and lavish after-hour receptions.
The cost of the videos or the exact day that they were published is still undetermined.
