President Obama has completely failed to explain what he would do in his second term if reelected, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) charged Sunday morning.
On NBC’s “Meet the Press” Rubio told host David Gregory the shift toward Mitt Romney in Florida and the rest of the county is a result of Romney’s concrete plan for America and Obama’s nonexistent one.
“Two things have happened over the last couple weeks,” Rubio said. “Number one is, the American people have gotten to see Mitt Romney up close as he offers his vision of the future, what he would do as President. But even more startling is the President’s complete failure to put forth an agenda for the next four years.”
“It’s just startling that the President, two weeks from election day, has completely given up on an outlining a plan for governing this country for the next four years,” he said on ABC’s “This Week.”
Additionally, Rubio said that during the last two weeks the President has instead focused on attacking Romney rather than explaining why he should be reelected, which is why an increasing number of women are supporting Romney.
“The reason why is because Barack Obama is not offering anything,” the Senator said on Meet the Press. “What is he going to do over the next four years economically so that women that are graduating from the universities can find jobs in the professions they are studying for?”
Rubio said Obama has a lack of vision about the number one issue in America, employment, and especially employment for women.
“What is his plan?” Rubio asked.
When Gregory brought up Medicare, Rubio again questioned whether the President has a plan for it. “Where is the President’s plan to save Medicare? Isn’t now a good time to offer it? What is he waiting for?”
On CBS‘s “Face the Nation“ the Florida Senator said he hopes Obama will be pressed on his second-term agenda during the final debate on Monday night.
“I mean, he has failed to outline any sort of ideas about how he will govern the country moving, in his words, ‘forward’ over the next four years,” Rubio said. “And that’s why these debates have mattered more than ever, and I think tomorrow is his last chance to tell us what he’s going to do over the next four years.”
Obama campaign advisor David Axelrod fired back at Rubio on “Meet the Press,” saying that he had never seen Rubio at an Obama rally, and that if he had ever attended one he would know the President’s second term agenda was, including his plan to “build an education system second to none,” “get control” of our energy future and raise taxes on the wealthy to “deal” with the deficit. Axelrod also accused Romney of wanting to return to failed polices of President Bush.
“We tried it. It doesn’t work. We can’t go back to that,” Axelrod claimed.
On ABC‘s “This Week“ Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel also accused Romney of trying to revive the failed strategies of the Bush administration.
“Mitt Romney wants to basically to do George Bush’s policies, and a little more of that,” he said. “Barack Obama has built policies on the same premises that President Clinton had, investing in America and strengthening America’s foundation, its people and its economic bedrock, research and development.”
Emanuel also utilized the familiar tactic Obama campaign tactic of blaming this administration’s failures on the damage done by the Bush administration even though Obama has now been President for four years.
