Taking a cue from Jimmy Kimmel’s famous “Mean Tweets” series, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Sen Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) got in on the fun and read some mean tweets about themselves in a video for the 2015 Radio & Television Correspondents Association Dinner.
While we have to imagine there were plenty of terrible tweets about these Congressional leaders to choose from, the mean tweets focused mostly on their appearance and the way they spoke.
Beyond what people think about how they look, we learned that Pelosi can’t put aside her anti-Republican attitude for even a two-minute video, that Boehner is not quite up on his Willy Wonka trivia and that McCarthy is pretty good at taking a joke.
But the video did have a deeper impact.
The writer of the Kevin McCarthy mean tweet has since come forward and apologized for his harsh words.
Dear @GOPLeader — it was me who tweeted that you need to work on the whole talking thing. I am sorry. That was not a nice thing to write.
