Jon Stewart defended Bernie Sanders and made fun of Hillary Clinton during Thursday’s episode of The Daily Show.
Particularly, Stewart shielded Sanders from the individuals casting him as a “loon,” explaining that the true difference between Sanders and Clinton — both of whom are Democratic presidential candidates — is that the former is being authentic and the latter is playing a “cynical political game.”
“The problem here isn’t that Bernie Sanders is a crazy-pants cuckoo bird,” Stewart said. “It’s that we’ve all become so accustomed to stage-managed, focus-group-driven candidates that authenticity comes across as lunacy.”
His evidence of Hillary’s inauthenticity? That fake southern accent she assumed when talking to a group of South Carolina supporters earlier this week.
