Economist Jeffrey Sachs on Clinton Foundation: ‘There’s a lot of money sloshing around’

Economist Jeffrey Sachs weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Clinton Foundation’s suspect foreign donations on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Friday, accusing Hillary and Bill Clinton of engaging in “schmoozing” and “crossing lines.”

“There’s a lot of money sloshing around and everything is blurred and it’s not good,” Sachs observed.

“The amount of schmoozing involved and crossing lines and one person putting money in a foundation and then Clinton getting unbelievable amounts for his speeches and contracts going one way or another,” Sachs continued, referencing details from the book “Clinton Cash.” “It’s not good, and those blurry lines have been seen by many people over the years.”

“There’s something there,” the economist added of the connections made by Peter Schweizer’s book.

Sachs also suggested that the Clinton’s “money machine” got in the way of the charity actually helping people around the world who are most in need.

“It was a huge distraction from serious policy and serious direction, unfortunately,” he said. “Just a lot of schmooze factor and a lot of money flowing without clear lines.”

Both Hillary and Bill Clinton have shrugged off unsavory reports about the foreign donations to the foundation, claiming that the revelations are simply the product of a political stunt to harm Hillary’s presidential campaign.
