Obama: ‘You kind of screwed up my ending’

And no, he was not talking about the fate of his presidency.

President Obama was speaking at a Democratic fundraiser in San Jose Thursday night when a member of the crowd began to shout, “Freedom for Ethiopia!”

“Freedom! Freedom for Ethiopia, sir!” he went on.

The president tried to quell the situation by remarking that he “agreed” with the man, but wanted him to pump the brakes for a moment because he was “just about to finish.”

“You kind of screwed up my ending, but that’s OK,” Obama said, after the man continued to shout for a few moments. “That’s OK.” The crowd laughed.

The bottom line of the president’s speech essentially asked donors to not screw up the end of his presidency. He appealed to Democratic base, saying that the country’s future was in jeopardy if it didn’t play its part in helping America make the “right choices.”

“There’s no other country that looks like us. It’s a huge gift.  The problem is that we’ll waste that gift if we don’t make the right choices,” the president said. “So what I want everybody to know is, is that for all the challenges we have and for all the legitimate reasons why people get discouraged, our future is bright if we make the right choices. Our future is bright if people shake off whatever is holding them back and they go to the polls. Our future is bright if people understand the stakes involved.”
