15 of the most unusual winning recipes from FLOTUS’s ‘Healthy Lunchtime Challenge and Kids’ State Dinner’ contest

First Lady Michelle Obama found time between lunching with U2’s Bono and planning her family’s now-cancelled African safari trip to engage in her latest project for her “Let’s Move” campaign – selecting the winning lunchtime recipes for the “The Healthy Lunchtime Challenge & Kids’ “State Dinner” contest.

The 54 winners – one from each state and U.S. territory – were announced by the White House on Thursday. The winners will be treated to a “Kids’ State Dinner” at the White House with the first lady on July 9.

The contest was also sponsored by Epicurious, the Department of Education and the Department of Agriculture.

“Our Kids’ State Dinner is one of my favorite events of the year, and the kid chefs who come from around the country never cease to impress and inspire me with their creativity and ingenuity.  I’m counting down the days until the winners join me at the White House to celebrate these healthy and delicious meals that kids everywhere will love,” First Lady Michelle Obama said in a press release.
