Grimes attacks McConnell for heading to D.C. for work, hypocritically heads there to fundraise herself

Sen. Mitch McConnell and his Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes are both in Washington D.C. this week.

McConnell is in D.C. because the Senate is back in session and Grimes is there for a fundraiser. Neither of those should give anyone a reason to care except that Grimes decided to spend the first part of the week launching vicious attacks on the senator for heading back to the Capitol to do his job.

Grimes’ campaign sent out a message Monday with the subject line, “NEW WEB AD: McConnell Flees To DC To Dodge Tough Questions Back Home.”

“Today, scandal-ridden Mitch McConnell is running back to Washington, DC, in an attempt to dodge the tough questions he faces back home. In a new web ad released Monday, Alison for Kentucky holds McConnell accountable for his refusal to answer to the people of Kentucky,” the announcement read.

“While Mitch McConnell refuses to be honest with voters, we do know that he cares more about millionaires and billionaires than hardworking Kentuckians,” it continued.

Meanwhile, Grimes planned to attend two fundraisers in the D.C. area, Politico reports.

Sens. Barbara Mikulski, Ben Cardin and Rep. Chris Van Hollen headlined a Tuesday evening fundraiser for Grimes in Potomac, Md., where attendees had to pay as much as $2,600 each to attend. The Grimes campaign also hosted a Wednesday reception at a Capitol Hill townhouse for the candidate at the same ticket price.

Attacking someone for doing their job — not something a member of Congress is frequently accused of, by the way — is already a weak attack. But coupling it with an attack on “caring about millionaires and billionaires,” when you are headed to the same town for a fundraiser is just straight up laughable.
