Ignorance is not always bliss, as college students at George Mason University learned.
MRCTV’s Dan Joseph headed to the school’s Northern Virginia campus and asked students to sign a petition advocating for the legalization of abortion in the fourth trimester — abortion after the baby is born. He told potential petitioners that abortion after the third trimester is currently illegal in all 50 states, but let students figure out for themselves that at 40 weeks, babies have already been birthed.
“Fourth-trimester abortion is illegal everywhere,” Joseph told one group of students. “That would be after the third trimester. After the ninth month of pregnancy.”
One student, while signing the petition, seemed concerned fourth-trimester abortion could hurt the child. When Joseph told her he didn’t know, because “the child wouldn’t be there anymore,” she lent her signature.
Joseph was able to coerce most students he talked with to sign his petition — 14 in total — even convincing a co-ed who had a baby just three months ago.
And he exchanged pleasantries with a woman who said she worked with Planned Parenthood. She, of course, signed the petition.
“Tell them Carlos said hi,” Joseph said. “Carlos Danger.”
The woman didn’t quite get the joke.
Following Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis’ (D) 11-hour filibuster on a 20-week abortion ban bill, bans on abortions after the fifth month of pregnancy have been at the forefront of the political debate for the past few months. Though polling shows that most Americans actually support a ban on abortions after 20 weeks, like these students may be the outliers — or just confused.
