White House petition demands National Anthem be changed to R. Kelly’s ‘Ignition (Remix)’

There was a lot of controversy when fans discovered Beyonce lip synced the National Anthem during President Obama’s Inauguration back in January, but maybe the real issue here is that she should have been singing R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix)” instead of Francis Scott Key’s “Star-Spangled Banner.”

White House petition created on Saturday is requesting the Obama administration to change the National Anthem to R. Kelly’s hit from 2003.

The petition reads:

“We, the undersigned, would like the Obama administration to recognize the need for a new national anthem, one that even a decade after its creation, is still hot and fresh out the kitchen. America has changed since Francis Scott Key penned our current anthem in 1814. Since then, we have realized that after the show, it’s the afterparty, and that after the party, it’s the hotel lobby, and–perhaps most importantly–that ’round about four, you’ve got to clear the lobby, at which point it’s strongly recommended that you take it to the room and freak somebody. President Obama: we ask you to recognize the evolution of this beautiful country and give us an anthem that better suits the glorious nation we have become.”

Almost 6,000 Americans agree with the new National Anthem choice, but as of Wednesday, the petition is still more than 94,000 signatures shy of enough signatures to warrant an official response from the White House.

But don’t worry R. Kelly fans. You still have until April 2 to sign the petition before it’s too late.

Because nothing says America like “bouncin’ on twenty fo’s.”
