Hip hop for Hillary!
Singer Ne-Yo is the latest celebrity to express his support for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, telling The Hill in a recent interview that she just might be the 2016 contender to inspire a song.
“Ms. Clinton — Mrs. Clinton, I should say, she’s a favorite of mine,” Ne-Yo said when asked about his top candidate ahead of the presidential election.
He also described himself as “all for change” in terms of electing a female to the White House, but said that he has taken particular interest in Hillary “since the Clinton administration.”
“I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with her,” the hip hop star added. “Looking forward to seeing what happens to her when she gets into a position of power, so to speak.”
Ne-Yo, who performed on the track “Forward” in support of President Obama in 2012, identified “Superwoman” as a potential title for a tune about Clinton.
The music star will have some competition if he attempts to pen a song for Hillary. Pop singer Katy Perry offered last summer to write a “theme song” for the former secretary of State long before she officially announced her presidential bid.
Ne-Yo joins other hip hop stars — like Waka Flocka Flame and Ja Rule — in his vocal support of Hillary. The Democratic presidential contender has also received backing from celebrities like actress Olivia Wilde and “House of Cards” star Michael Kelly.
The singer made his pro-Clinton comments following the ASCAP Foundation’s “We Write the Songs” concert at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., Tuesday evening, which was attended by GOP presidential candidate Rand Paul and multiple other lawmakers.
