Mike Huckabee might not be crazy in love with Beyonce, but he’s suddenly seeming more complimentary of the pop star than he did a few days ago.
The possible GOP presidential candidate, who last week dubbed her lyrics not “suitable” for young girls like the Obama children, told TMZ Sunday night that Beyonce is a “mega-talent.”
“She’s done some great stuff,” explained Huckabee. “That’s my whole point. She’s such a mega-talent and, I mean, even what she does is perfectly up to her. She’s just a great talent that doesn’t need to be as risqué to be popular.”
The former Arkansas governor was arriving at LaGuardia Airport, undoubtedly traveling to New York City to film Monday’s episode of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”
In fact, Huckabee was again asked to confront his Beyonce comments during his “Daily Show” interview. He a second time identified the pop star as a “mega-talent” but asserted that “she does not have to … be vulgar in order to set a trend.”
“The thing that disturbs me, let’s say, about when you see Beyonce, who is a role model to young girls,” Huckabee continued. “Young girls want to be like her. Do you know any parent who has a daughter that says, ‘Honey, if you make really good grades, someday when you’re 12 or 13, we’ll get you your own stripper pole’?”
Many individuals have criticized Huckabee for his suggestion that the Obamas are imperfect parents because they allow their children to listen to Beyonce, including former President Jimmy Carter.
“I don’t agree with much that Mike Huckabee says,” Carter told TMZ last week. “I think that President Obama is doing a good job.”
Huckabee on Sunday assured that he was “comforted” by Carter’s response.
