Poll: 80% of philosophy students embrace socialism

A new poll shows that an overwhelming majority of students who choose to study philosophy as their college major end up embracing socialism.

New data from the college analytics and survey company College Pulse indicate that approximately 78% of all college philosophy majors have a favorable view of socialism, indicating just how prominent left-wing thought is within certain academic disciplines.

While philosophy students were overwhelmingly likely to express a favorable view of socialism, their beliefs apparently aren’t indicative of the beliefs held by all college students. Just 39% of all college students polled, regardless of major, were likely to report a favorable view of socialism, while another 39% expressed an unfavorable view.

Opinions of socialism also appear to be heavily influenced by academic discipline. After philosophy, approximately 64% of anthropology majors were also very likely to have a favorable view of socialism, followed by 58% of English majors and 57% of music, sociology, and international relations majors.

Meanwhile, a great majority of accounting and finance majors are not choosing to embrace the system. Just roughly one in five accounting and finance majors expressing a favorable view of socialism.
