A New York congressman isn’t too thrilled with how the show runners of Netflix’s political drama “House of Cards” decided to describe the wine grown in his district in its newly-released second season.
Without giving too much of the season’s plot line away, Frank Underwood’s (Kevin Spacey) replacement as House Majority Whip hails from California. While attempting to strike a deal with two senior House Democrats during the season’s fourth episode, the new Whip suggests that Long Island-grown wine “tastes like piss compared to what we have in Napa… the sort of piss that belongs in… a waste treatment facility.” (You can watch the scene here.)
Rep. Tim Bishop, the real-life Democratic congressman representing the part of the island that is home to the vineyards in question, didn’t take kindly to the show’s slight of the area’s wineries. He released the following statement to The Suffolk Times Tuesday in response to the comment.
The Times has yet to hear back from the New York City playwright who penned the episode for comment.
