Joe Biden jokes about Obama’s reliance on teleprompters

Vice President Joe Biden threw his boss under the bus last night.

During a speech at the Jewish American Heritage Month reception in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, Biden made a joke at Obama’s expense after requesting the teleprompter be removed.

“You can’t tell Barack that the teleprompter’s down,” Biden said to the crowd, according to the pool report. “The standing joke in the office is Barack’s learning to speak without a teleprompter; I’m learning to speak with one. I apologize for the teleprompter.”

It’s no surprise that even the White House jokes about Obama’s teleprompter reliance. The POTUS has long been criticized for his inability to improvise speeches.

It’s also pretty obvious that the Veep typically goes unscripted. Speech writers don’t usually include jargon like “malarkey” and gaffes like “mortally wounded” in prepared remarks.

After Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz introduced the VP, Biden proclaimed his love to the DNC chair.

“Love you,” Biden said to Wasserman-Schultz.

“Love you too,” she answered.

When he was done ridiculing the President on his teleprompter use and loving on DWS, Biden finally got to the point of why he was there in the first place — to acknowledge the Jewish community.

“The truth is that Jewish heritage, Jewish culture, Jewish values are such an essential part of who we are that it’s fair to say that Jewish heritage is American heritage,” he said.

Biden finished his speech claiming Obama “sends his best,” but that he’s “occupied with a few problems.”
