Richard Dreyfuss says we have the right to tell the federal government to ‘get the **** out’ on education

Richard Dreyfuss made quite the plug for the U.S. Constitution and American exceptionalism during an appearance on “Huckabee” this weekend, and he touted the states’ control over education in the process.

The 66-year-old actor appeared on the program to discuss his organization, The Dreyfuss Initiative, that encourages civics education in schools.

“You said that we can choose to have the state governments take care. We don’t choose — it’s in the Constitution. Education is in the hands of the states, and we have the right to tell the federal government, ‘Get the **** out of here,’ and we do,” Dreyfuss said. He made his comments in the context of organizing a brief civil strike to help promote his efforts — just enough “to remind them that we’re here.”

The actor said we ought to know more about the Constitution given its place in our history and that of the world.

“We were responsible for the greatest revolution in the history of manned civilization. We gave to 98 percent of the human race freedoms that they had been lashed for, lost fingers for or had their heads chopped off for, and we gave it to them for free; and we are the most revolutionary nation that has ever been and ever will be,” Dreyfuss said. “And we don’t know enough about our Constitution or our history to know why we should be proud of it.”
