House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) reportedly agreed to do an interview with Bill O’Reilly, but the Congresswoman still hasn’t sat down with the Fox News anchor. So O’Reilly sent his best man, Jesse Watters, to Washington, D.C., to ask advice from — or badger — other members of Congress on how to track her down.
Last Thursday, during her weekly press conference, Pelosi was questioned by a reporter about the apparent agreement she had made to do an interview on The O’Reilly Factor. As it turns out, that reporter was Watters, who does the segment ‘Watters’ World’ for O’Reilly’s show.
And Watters certainly made the most of his time on Capitol Hill, speaking with prominent members of Congress from both sides of the aisle. Many offered advice or encouragement to Pelosi regarding the show.
“I swear to goodness, it will be the best experience of her life,” Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) told Watters. “I think he’s a new improved Bill.”
“You know, I think she should do it,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said. “Bill’s an equal-opportunity giver of hard times.”
But some of the members of Congress were less helpful. Watters attempted to chase down Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), but was told to “back off.” Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) instructed Watters to talk to his communications director instead.
“I don’t have any advice for Ms. Pelosi,” Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) said. “I have to look out for myself.”
Several of the Senators used the opportunity to take shots at the California Congresswoman.
“After you do the interview, then you’ll know what’s in it,” Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) quipped.
“I would send it to her in writing,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) joked of the interview request. “Maybe a couple thousand pages.”
After Watters returned to New York, he informed O’Reilly that the “general consensus” on Capitol Hill is that Pelosi wouldn’t be sitting down for the interview. O’Reilly then decided he was going to attempt to bribe the Congresswoman.
“I’m going to send her some sourdough bread,” the host declared.
