There is already a plethora of benefits to being an illegal alien in California. They can practice law, receive in-state tuition for public colleges, get state-funded student aid, and obtain a driver’s license. But California lawmakers felt their state was still not friendly enough to illegal immigrants.
According to Campus Reform, the California Assembly recently passed a bill, AB 1366, mandating California community colleges and state universities to create on-campus centers dedicated to teaching illegal immigrants.
The centers will provide illegal immigrants with information on how to take advantage of financial aid, informational workshops, legal clinics, peer mentoring, and support services.
“It is important as the undocumented student population continues to grow they are given the support needed. By establishing Dream Resource Centers, students will be able to focus more on their academic goals and less on administrative and social barriers,” Democratic Assemblywoman Patty Lopez said in a statement.
At least she’s honest that the borders aren’t secure, and the illegal population is growing.
At least six California universities, including but not limited to University of California Davis, UCLA, Cal State Long Beach and Cal State Northridge got a head start on catering to illegal immigrants’ needs and have already created a specialized centers for illegal immigrants. In late May, a $1.6 million private endowment was given to Cal State Los Angeles to open its own Dream Success Center.
