Mitt Romney might have sealed his lock on the GOP presidential nomination with last week’s victory in Texas, but Texas Rep. Ron Paul’s guerilla strategy of targeting GOP party apparatuses is starting to bear fruit in Nevada.
According to Russia Today, Ron Paul supporters have managed to gain control of Nevada State GOP offices, which will put them in a clear position to have a role in the nominating process at the Republican National Convention in Tampa.
Even though Romney has the nomination sewn up, Paul’s people could have a voice in the development of the GOP platform for the next four years.
Paul’s supporters in Nevada have gained so much influence that many Romney supporters have resigned.
Several weeks ago The Las Vegas Sun reported that Romney and Republican National Committee (RNC) set up a shadow state party after Paul supporters within the Clark County GOP called on RNC Chair Reince Priebus to resign.
During the Nevada state GOP convention, Paul’s delegates won 22 of the state’s 28 spots for the Republican National Convention.
A recent NBC/Marist poll found that Nevada voters are split down the middle between Romney and Obama.
Paul supporters hoped to have a similar impact in Washington state on Friday when the Seattle Times reported their spurning of calls to unite behind Romney but fell short of gaining a majority of delegates.
“[T]ake a look around,” Matt Dublin, a Washington state Paul supporter said. “”Do you want to send a delegation to Tampa that will give the nominee a blank slate … or hold his feet to the fire?”
