With the ever-popular hashtag a staple of Twitter and Instagram, Facebook has finally decided to integrate the feature to their social-networking platform, the company announced today.
In an effort to add to its audience engagement, Facebook users will be able to click on the hashtags that appear in their newsfeed. Once a hashtag is clicked on, users will then be brought to a feed that shows what fellow Facebook members and pages are saying about the topic or event.
Additionally, users can search for specific hashtags in the site’s search bar. Facebook merged its hashtag feature with Instagram — which the company recently bought — so those who have memberships to both social networking sites can click on hashtags that originate from the photo-sharing site.
Facebook’s announcement of hashtags is the first in a line of new features the site plans to unveil in the coming weeks and months.
