If any Republican plans on winning the White House they’re going to have to do better at winning the youth vote than John McCain or Mitt Romney’s 32 and 36 percent, respectfully.
Several college students are already working to ensure Donald Trump wins the millennial vote and the White House.
The International Business Times reported that Ryan Fournier of Campbell University in North Carolina took it upon himself to start a youth for Trump campaign.
Students for Trump isn’t an official campaign organization, though he’s had some communications with the campaign. Fournier and his vice chairman John Lambert, a 19-year old sophomore at Campbell, have recruited about 25 student leaders and 150 volunteers in states like California and Texas to help Trump win the primary and general.
“We believe it’s our job to get out there and spread the message. We want to motivate younger voters who haven’t had an interest in politics and really educate them on why they should be interested — why Donald Trump would make America great again,” Lambert said to the IB Times.
“Me and John believe that the student vote is very important,” Fournier continued, adding that the 2008 and 2012 general elections were essentially decided by young people. “[They] are the generation that’s going to be leading this nation.”
Fournier and Lambert plan on expanding Students for Trumps to more campuses across the country.
Trump isn’t alone in attempting to attract young people, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) have also started student youth groups that have volunteers across the country.
