The news that Facebook had been censoring conservative viewpoints wasn’t shocking to anyone following social media. Liberals would much rather be crusaders for feminism, #BlackLivesMatter, and various ethnic lobbies than ever defend free speech.
Breitbart Tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos, “the Kanye West of journalism,” challenged Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to a live debate about free speech.
“An expose in Gizmodo suggested that Facebook’s contractors, the people who are responsible for putting together the trending topics, were either routinely ignoring or deprioritizing certain conservative outlets including ours, Breitbart,” Yiannopoulos said in a video address.
“Here at Breitbart we believe in free speech, transparency, openness,” he continued. “We believe in telling our readers exactly what’s going on and our hope is that Facebook too believes in First Amendment principles.”
Yiannopoulos said he wanted to ask Zuckerberg why he wasn’t allowed to use the name of his speaking tour, “The Dangerous Faggot Tour,” on Facebook without being censored, and why Germans were being censored for criticizing Angela Merkel’s policy of importing over a million Syrian refugees.
Within an hour of Yiannopoulos posing his challenge to the Facebook founder, the hashtag #TalkToMilo began trending on Twitter.
