The headline to an AP story (link no longer active) Friday morning about efforts to bring home an American aid worker ill with Ebola read, “Plans underway to get American sick with Ebola.”
“Get,” in this context, was meant to convey “retrieve,” or “bring home.”
The headline has since been rewritten with “retrieve.”
ABC News published a story Friday allaying fears about the disease’s presence in the United States.
“Even if a case were imported into the US — and here we’re bringing two people for hospital care — that actually the risk for Americans is essentially zero,” Dr. William Shaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, said.
The story noted that Ebola does not spread “through casual contact or by sharing the same air that an infected person is breathing.”
