Bill Maher calls Obamacare “too capitalist”

It’s hard to know what sort of outrageous comments Bill Maher will make next, and in an interview on Meet the Press this week, the outspoken liberal actually called Obamacare “too capitalist.”

During the interview, reporter Harry Smith asked Maher if he thought Obamacare was a mistake. And, of course, Maher implied it wasn’t.

“The problem with Obamacare is not, of course, too much socialism,” Maher told Smith. “It’s still too much capitalism.”

“The reason why it’s so screwed up is because we have to have this Rube Goldberg plan that allows for pharmaceutical companies to get their cut, and insurance companies to get their cut, and hospitals to enrich themselves and doctors to get rich,” Maher added. “It should be a non-profit thing.”

Maher has recently been touring the country with his one-man comedy show, where he has been attacking both Republicans and Democrats for what he believes to be their stupidity.

“I know everywhere there are smart, progressive, freethinking people,” he said in a clip of one of his shows. “They’re just surrounded by a bunch of red necks, I understand that.”

But when it comes to which political party disappoints Maher more, the answer is obvious: the Republicans.

“Oh, come on,” Maher said in response to Smith’s question. “Seriously? Republicans. You know, I mean in the last 20 years that has not really been a choice. They just drove the short bus to crazy town at a certain point.”

Maher has become increasingly famous for his outrageous comments, like last month’s comment that conservatives should have a mass shooting at the CMAs and the comment that he made that the Tea Party was formed because of the color of Obama’s skin.
