Sen. Angus King: “There’s no such thing as Obamacare”

When it comes right down to it, there really is “no such thing as Obamacare,” according to Sen. Angus King (I-Maine).

King, along with Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), appeared on Fox News Sunday this week. And during a debate over the merits — or lack thereof — of the Affordable Care Act, the Senator from Maine tried to stress that ‘Obamacare’ wasn’t really a thing.

“There’s no such thing as Obamacare,” King said near the end of the interview with host Chris Wallace. “You can’t sign up for Obamacare. You sign up for an Anthem policy, or an Aetna policy, or a Welthorn policy. It’s private insurance.”

During his appearance, the ardent Obamacare supporter also expressed confidence that young people were signing up for health insurance under the ACA, but had just waited until the last minute to do so. King also defended the extension of the enrollment period for those who have had a problem signing up for coverage through HealthCare.gov.

“Here in Maine, at 8 o’clock p.m. on election night, if you’re in line to vote — even if it takes you a half-hour to get there — you get to vote,” he said. “They don’t close you out. This is exactly the same thing. People are in line, they’ve started the process of signing up.”
