In a recent raunchy roundtable for the June 5 issue of The Hollywood Reporter, several of Hollywood’s favorite female comedians unsurprisingly demonstrated their support for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Among them was Saturday Night Live‘s Kate McKinnon, who has become famous for her rather harsh interpretations of Clinton for the weekend comedy show’s political sketches ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
The comedienne admitted that she feels “pressure” playing Hillary on such a major stage, insisting that she is “rooting” for the former secretary of state to win the White House in 2016.
“It’s a combination of the writers’ take on her but also this contrast between a woman so driven and hardened by her experiences — She needs this! The country needs this! — and this sweetie granny from the Midwest. The juxtaposition,” McKinnon said of the Hillary-themed SNL sketches.
McKinnon also expressed her nervousness at the thought of meeting Clinton, labeling her “resplendent.”
Several other members of the roundtable — which included Lena Dunham, Amy Schumer, Ellie Kemper, Gina Rodriguez and Tracee Ellis Ross — jumped at the opportunity to compliment and stand up for Clinton.
“Hillary is a laugher,” Schumer said, referencing the presidential candidate’s distinctive — if mechanical — laugh. “The coolest.”
“I love that people are like, ‘She’s not qualified to be president,'” Dunham, who has vehemently expressed her support for Clinton, said. “Then everybody else they bring in, they’re like, ‘He managed a Ben & Jerry’s for a while.'”
“‘He’s the night manager at Petco,'” Schumer followed.
Curiously, there are no Ben & Jerry’s or Petco managers making serious bids for president.
The group also rattled off some potential campaign slogans for Hillary. Schumer suggested “Snitches Get Stitches,” McKinnon offered “Guys, Come On,” and Dunham proposed “Blondes Have More Foreign Policy Experience.”
