WH uses celebrity moms to promote Obamacare

The White House has a new message designed to encourage young people to enroll in the Affordable Care Act: #YourMomCares, and Jonah Hill’s, Adam Levine’s, Alicia Keys’ and Jennifer Lopez’s moms do, too.

In a new video posted Friday, First Lady Michelle Obama joins Sharon Feldstein (Hill’s mom), Patty Noah (Levine’s mom), Terria Joseph (Keys’ mom), and Guadalupe Rodriguez (Lopez’s mom) to promote the Affordable Care Act through a new campaign called #YourMomCares.

The video features the mothers discussing their celebrity kids’ gifted early years, from Keys’ ability to play a song on the piano after only hearing it once to Hill’s mischievous childhood, which included flooding his elementary school. Collectively, the moms call on young people to do their own mothers a favor and purchase health insurance insurance under Obamacare.

“Trust me, us moms put up with a lot,” Feldstein said. “But one thing we should never have to put up with is our kid not having healthcare.”

“Young people feel invincible, and until something actually happens, they will continue to feel invincible,” Noah continues. “And unfortunately, things do happen.”

The moms then go on to plead with Millennials to enroll in Obamacare exchanges, warning that their mothers may just have a “nervous breakdown” if they don’t.

“You need health insurance. It’s imperative that you have health insurance,” Feldstein begs. “Taking care of yourselves so your mothers can sleep and have a nice life after all they’ve done for you is not too much to ask in my opinion.”

The video closes with a message from Obama, who insists that mothers “nag you because we love you” and directs viewers to head to healthcare.gov to enroll.

All they’re missing is a good ‘ole fashioned, “Because I said so.”

The #YourMomCares campaign is part of the White House’s final push to boost enrollment in Obamacare’s exchanges. The open enrollment period for consumers to purchase health insurance in the marketplace ends March 31, and thus far, enrollment figures fall short of the administration’s projections.

The Department of Health and Human Services is specifically working to target young people, as demonstrated by the #YourMomCares campaign, and credited President Barack Obama’s appearance on the web show “Between Two Ferns” with driving traffic to the online marketplace, healthcare.gov.

Young people’s participation in the law is especially crucial its success, as their enrollment drives down the cost of insurance for the elderly and uninsured.
