The kind of love young people have for Bernie Sanders isn’t just to vote for him at the ballot box. Pollster Frank Luntz asked those ages 18-26 years old, referred to as “the Snapchat generation,” a series of questions.
Young voters respect Sanders — and want to have dinner with him.
When it comes to whom they want to have dinner with, President Barack Obama came in first with 29 percent, followed by Jennifer Lawrence (28 percent), Ellen Degeneres and Bill Gates (both 27 percent). Sanders came in at 22 percent, well out performing Donald Trump (10 percent) and Hillary Clinton (8 percent). Music superstars Kanye West and Justin Bieber trailed the pack, with 8 and 7 percent respectively.
In another category though, Sanders managed to knock Obama from the top spot. He commanded respect from 31 percent, while Obama and Hillary paled in comparison with 18 and 11 percent, respectively.
Luntz asked respondents a variety of questions, with some interestingly optimistic results. An “astounding” 88 percent say they are at least somewhat optimistic about their own future. Fifty-four percent are extremely or very optimistic. Only 12 percent are pessimistic.
And, in what is referred to in the “most stunning survey finding,” it is noted that for the respondents, “hope, change, and optimism aren’t political buzzwords. They’re real, because that’s exactly what they expect for themselves and their generation.”
While Bernie Sanders is not mentioned in this part of the survey, respondents may love him so much based on their top answers for the country’s problem, in one word. Corruption topped at 38 percent, followed by greed at 29 percent, and inequality at 26 percent. For all those Sanders supporters who like the idea of socialism though, they must not understand it very well, as 26 percent of them said government was the problem.
