Americans have lost confidence in Obama, Congress and Supreme Court, study says

Monday is a record breaking day in the United States, and not for the reasons politicians might be hoping for.

Americans’ confidence in all three branches of the U.S. government has dropped yet again, according to a new Gallup poll. This time it’s reaching record lows for the Supreme Court and Congress, and a six-year low for the presidency.

Confidence in President Barack Obama saw the largest drop of the three branches this year, reaching 29 percent. That’s seven percentage points lower than its previous rating of 36 percent.

About 30 percent of the American public expressed confidence in the Supreme Court and only 7 percent felt confident about Congress’s ability to do its job, according to the survey.

Confidence in the presidency is now the lowest it has been under Obama, as is confidence in Congress and the Supreme Court. When Obama first took office in 2009, each of the three branches saw a bump in confidence, but that has since been eroded.

These low rankings should come as no surprise. A separate study earlier this year found that Americans preferred dog poop and mother-in-laws to their elected officials.
