[WATCH] Bill Maher slams Democrats for failing to come out against the Second Amendment

HBO “Real Time” host Bill Maher is known to slam conservatives. But the outspoken liberal also took some shots at Democrats on Friday night, calling them out for failing to “come out against the Second Amendment.”

Maher, who is no fan of the right to bear arms, aggressively questioned Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) about why Democrats fail to fully oppose the Second Amendment, as they instead appear to be a party that is “Republican-lite.”

“Then why doesn’t your party come out against the Second Amendment?” Maher asked Ellison. “I never hear anyone in the Democratic Party say that. What they say is, ‘I’m also a strong supporter.'”

Ellison attempted to defend himself and his fellow Democrats, saying that it’s unnecessary to “eliminate all guns in order to get some common sense gun rules.” He went on to reassure Maher that many Democrats, like those in the Progressive Caucus, are against the Second Amendment.

Maher, however, continued to push the Minnesota Democrat.

“The problem is that Democrats love guns, too,” he said. “See, that’s the problem, that Democrats are just as bad.”

The “Real Time” host referenced Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) holding up a shotgun at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference. His opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes, responded with a photo of herself at a shooting range.

While Ellison refuted that many Democrats support common sense gun control but believe Americans should be able to have certain types of firearms, Maher called him out.

“Common sense gun safety is bulls**t,” he said. “It means there are 3,000 types of guns available in the U.S. and you want to ban 200 of them.”
