Hillary Clinton spoke with Fusion’s Jorge Ramos recently and addressed her highly controversial “dead broke” comment for which she has been defending herself all summer.
When asked whether or not she regrets telling Diane Sawyer that she and her husband Bill were “dead broke” when they left the White House in 2001, Hillary said that she does regret making the statement but continued to insist that it was the truth.
“I regret it,” Clinton admitted. “It was inartful. It was accurate, but we are so successful and we’re so blessed by the success we’ve had, and my husband has worked incredibly hard.”
Ramos countered by asking Clinton if she knows her own net worth, and the former secretary of State responded by trying to sidestep the question.
“Within a range, yeah,” Clinton said. “I mean, we have two very nice houses which we’re very proud of and not selling anytime soon.”
“Millions?” Ramos followed up.
“Yes, indeed,” Hillary admitted without getting too specific.
Exactly how inaccurate would measuring Hillary Clinton’s net worth in her houses be? The Clintons own two homes, one in Washington, D.C., worth $4.5 million and another in Chappaqua, New York, valued at $1.33 million, according to Mortgage Calculator.
That brings us to a total of $5.83 million in houses only. Yet, Hillary Clinton has a net worth of $50 million or more, meaning her houses don’t even begin to cover even a fifth her entire fortune.
Nice try, Hillary, but America still knows how rich you really are.
