Though Hillary Clinton has yet to officially enter the race for the White House in 2016, she already has an early celebrity endorsement from Grammy-winning musician Pharrell Williams, who is convinced the former secretary of state is going to claim victory.
The singer and producer — who gained notoriety this year for his Smokey the Bear-style hat — announced his support for Clinton in an interview with GQ for the magazine’s April issue.
“Let me tell you why Hillary’s going to win. Everywhere you go in this country, you have red and blue. You got the Democrats; you got the Republicans. You got the Bloods; you got the Crips. Everything is red and blue in this country,” Pharrell said. “You know what else is red and blue? Blood. Blood is blue in your body until air hits it, and then it turns red. That means there’s unity.”
Contrary to what the Grammy-winning musician thinks, though, blood is actually red, not blue, when it’s in the human body.
Still, he pressed on with his unity theme, saying the world is likely to change once Clinton becomes president.
“There’s gonna be unity. So when you think about a night where there’s late-night talk-show hosts and it’s mostly women, that’s a different world. Right? A world where seventy-five percent of the prime ministers and the presidents were women: That’s a different world. That’s gonna happen, and it’s gonna happen when Hillary wins,” he said.
Pharrell said the combination of former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton is a “two-for-one” and called Bill Clinton the “coolest dude in the game” because he “still plays saxophone, and every woman in the world wants him.”
Hillary, though, represents a “woman in power,” the “Happy” singer said.
The famed producer went on to criticize pro-life supporters and Tea Party proponents, or “the guys with the n***er jokes in 2014.”
“They’re all trying to learn how to do the Dougie. Please. While their daughters are all twerking,” he said. “Trust me: Miley tells me all the time. Not saying that about Billy Ray, but I’m saying Miley tells me all the time: All those little girls, all those girls with their Republican daddies, they’re twerkin’ somewhere listening to Jay Z and Beyoncé and doin’ the “Happy” dance. And that’s black.”
Pharrell was one of several celebrities who endorsed President Obama during his presidential run in 2008. The singer, who once called 2008 Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin a “hot MILF,” designed a campaign t-shirt for Obama to garner support for the then-senator.
Additionally, Pharrell joined a legion of Hollywood A-listers in promoting the Affordable Care Act.
While Clinton has not yet announced whether she will make another run for the White House — despite mounting speculation — Pharrell is “reaching out to her right now” in the event that she does.
