“The Daily Show” pays homage to “Morning Joe” in hilariously awkward tribute

“The Daily Show” pays homage to political television shows like no other, and the Comedy Central news program was at it again with a hilariously awkward tribute to MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Similar to a tribute “The Daily Show” correspondent Samantha Bee did for Fox News’ “The Five,” Bee praised the MSNBC morning program Wednesday night, calling it a “family.”

“‘Morning Joe’ is not a morning news show,” Bee told host Jon Stewart. “No, Jon, ‘Morning Joe’ is a family. The kind of family you don’t see much anymore. What with today’s divorce rates and rap music and frozen yogurt. No, ‘Morning Joe’ is a family that sticks together.”

Calling the MSNBC program as “American as apple pie,” Bee introduced the audience to “Daddy Joe” Scarborough and “Mother Mika” Brzezinski.

“And together, they’re strapped onto the rocket ship of passion that is middle-aged coupledom,” Bee passionately said.

She goes on to introduce the “boy pundits” of the “Morning Joe” family, which include frequent guests Willie Geist, “Markey” Halperin, “Little Jonny” Meacham, “Bald Johnny” Heilemann and “The Toddster” Chuck Todd, among others.

But the family extends well beyond the immediate relatives, Bee explained, and has many “great friends,” like former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) and “Saturday Night Live” star Fred Armisen.

“It’s a perfect life in a perfect world, and we’re all going to be so happy forever,” Bee exclaimed.

“The Daily Show” correspondent, though, became shocked and saddened upon learning that Christie, or “Uncle Chris,” was “sad” because of the Bridgegate scandal.

But have no fear, “Daddy Joe” came to his rescue.

“You know, I’ve learned something here today,” Bee concluded. “Oh sure, my ‘Morning Joe’ family may fight and bicker and starf**k like nobody’s business. But when the chips are down for one of our powerful friends, we pull together to attack anyone who questions them. Because that’s what morning news shows do.”
