MSNBC host: in eyes of GOP, it’s worth it for young people to reject Obamacare and risk ‘unnecessary death’

In MSNBC’s never-ending game of one-upmanship of which on-air talent can say the darnedest thing, it was a co-host of The Cycle taking the reins Tuesday in saying the GOP would be totally cool with young Americans risking death over rejecting enrollment in the Obamacare exchanges.

Krystal Ball was commenting on a recent startling advertisement from Generation Opportunity when she donned her clairvoyance cap to assume what the Republican Party would deem an acceptable sacrifice in exchange for young people opting out of obtaining insurance through the health care law.

“Don’t go to the state or federal government operated insurance exchanges to buy private insurance. Stay away. Stay uninsured. Skip that Pap smear. Skip that tetanus shot. Skip that prenatal care. Skip that cholesterol test,” the GOP would say to young adults, according to Ball. “And if you die an agonizing and unnecessary death, one that could have been prevented by the health insurance reform that bears the president’s name, at least you know your death will not have been in vain.”

It’s been well-documented that the enrollment of Americans aged between 18 and 35 in the Obamacare exchanges is key to holding down the cost of premiums. Their lack of participation would do serious financial damage to the program and potentially move Obamacare in the direction of ‘collapsing under its own weight’.

As for Ball’s assertions, Newsbusters’ Noel Sheppard weighs in:

Saying Republicans don’t want young people to buy health insurance is preposterous.

What conservatives don’t want is the government to force young people to purchase something that morbidity tables show will likely have absolutely no benefit for them until the distant future so that others who likely will benefit much sooner can get it either for free or far more cheaply.

Irrespective of what Supreme Court chief justice John Roberts foolishly ruled last year, this is neither Constitutional nor ethical.

As for these young people dying if ObamaCare is not enacted, that asininely assumes that people won’t have the money to pay for their care if they get sick or won’t purchase health insurance when they reach an age when they believe they need it.
