Would anyone be that surprised? Jimmy Fallon channeled his inner Russian as Vladimir Putin during a sketch on Wednesday’s “Tonight Show,” promoting a Kickstarter to raise funds for a “New Cold War.”
The comedian began the sketch by mentioning that Putin has recently “gone on record saying he’s not trying to start another Cold War.” Lightening the tension, Fallon joked about an email he received with a link that looked like a Kickstarter campaign for Putin and his new “passion project.”
“If you’re not familiar with Cold War,” Fallon says as Putin, “it is basically passive aggressive fight. Like when roommate eats your potato and you say, ‘That is only potato I have for whole year!’ And then you stare at each other angrily.”

The crisis in Ukraine has kept the world on its toes, and as Fallon mentions, earlier this month a spokesperson for the Russian president stated that Russia hoped a new Cold War would not break out despite “extremely deep disagreements.”
It was reported Thursday that at least 10,000 Russian troops were practicing “intensive training” near the Ukrainian border.
