Trump’s New Entitlement: ‘Start some government program’ to make college affordable

College affordability is becoming a hot topic for the 2016 campaign. And, it makes sense for the man at the top of the polls, Donald Trump, would weigh in.

The solution, Trump believes, must involve the government.

At a town hall on Thursday, as the Washington Examiner reported, he said the “only way” to make sure low-income students can afford their tuition and books is to “start a government program.”

Trump’s answer’s also acknowledged the issue of loans:

You know the one program that the U.S. makes a whole lot of money with is student loans, and that’s maybe the one program they shouldn’t be making money with.

So we’re going to have to start a program. We’re going to do something very big with loans because you have to get these people going. They really feel down and out.

When asked about what to do about the student debt, Trump emphasized refinancing. “We’re going to do refinancing for people who have loans who literally can’t do anything. We’re going to do refinancing and extensions.”
