Congress will be back in session Tuesday and the event everyone has been waiting for can finally take place.
No, we’re not talking about the Republicans taking charge of both the House and Senate. We’re talking about the much discussed “bourbon summit” between Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and President Obama.
McConnell (R-Ky.) said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday that the bourbon summit between him and Obama will take place.
“Well, I think it will happen. The people in the industry in our state are sure hoping it’s going to happen,” he said.
After the Democrats’ defeat in the 2014 midterm elections, Obama said during a press conference that he would like to get together with McConnell over a glass of bourbon, giving life to what has since been deemed the “bourbon summit.” There has been so much interest in the boozy meeting between the two political foes that “Saturday Night Live” used it as a cold open and a gambling magazine even set odds on exactly what type of bourbon would be served.
For his part, McConnell said he wouldn’t have anything to do with picking the type of bourbon.
CNN host Dana Bash asked McConnell what type of bourbon he would choose on the show.
“That’s like you picking among my three daughters, which one I love the most,” McConnell replied.
“Sounds like you have to have a taste test,” Bash joked.
“Yes. We’re going to have some kind of draw it out of a hat selection for the bourbon,” he said.
