A new poll released on Monday showed that Hillary Clinton hasn’t stopped the bleeding from her support since early in September.
Bloomberg Politics reported that Donald Trump now leads Clinton by two points nationally, with Gary Johnson and Jill Stein falling further behind in the polls. The Republican nominee had 43 percent, the Democrat had 41 percent, the Libertarian had 8 percent, and the Green Party nominee stood at 4 percent.
This is a six point swing in just a matter of seven weeks. In early August, Clinton led Trump, 44 to 40 percent, respectively.
Clinton’s erosion is nearly entirely due to millennials jumping ship at record numbers. The Democratic nominee’s lead shrunk from 29 percent to just 10 percent in a little over a month – nearly 66 percent drop.
She leads Trump overall still, but just by 50 to 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup. Numbers on the four-way race were not provided by Bloomberg.
Still, those numbers are telling, they show that millennials no longer view Trump as a nominee that could bring a catastrophe-like nuclear war to the world, which is exactly where the Republican nominee wants to be.
If Trump’s rhetoric becomes unstable again, millennials will feel inclined to vote for Clinton, even though they don’t like her. Yet, if Trump remains the way he has been during the last few weeks, then it’s just a choice between two unlikeable people.
Trump could win this election by being unlikeable as long as he’s viewed as stable. So far, so good.
