Congratulations go out to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for successfully finding a way to suspend his own gun control laws.
The Democratic governor was forced to shelve a measure that enacted a seven-round limit for magazines from the gun control law the state passed in January – for the simple reason that gun manufacturers do not actually make seven-round holders.
Perhaps this was something he should have looked into before mandating the limit in the first place.
Cuomo managed to suspend the seven-bullet limit, which was set to begin on April 15, “indefinitely” by adding the suspension measure to his annual budget. The state legislature is expected to pass the budget this week and go into effect on April 1.
New York was the first state to pass stringent gun control laws in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings in neighboring Connecticut. Unfortunately for gun owners and gun companies, the other measures in the law that strengthen the preexisting assault weapons ban in New York will still be in effect.
As always, Texas and other red states will still welcome all New York gun advocates with open arms. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s invitation still stands:
