Voters think they have too many choices among the GOP presidential candidates.
About 54 percent of Republican voters think the field has too many candidates. Only 25 percent think the GOP has “about the right number” of candidates, according to a YouGov/Huffington Post poll.
The older a Republican is, the more likely they are to believe that too many candidates are running.
Even so, Republican voters are enthusiastic (31 percent) or satisfied (40 percent) with their options.
Those figures trump Democratic voters. Only 22 percent are enthusiastic and 38 percent satisfied with their options.
Democrats, however, are more confident in their choice. Forty-four percent “have a good idea” of who will get their primary vote, and 35 percent are unsure. Only 32 percent of Republicans have a good idea, while 50 percent are unsure.
Even with too many GOP candidates, Republicans are satisfied with the candidates who have emerged. As the field narrows, especially after the early primaries, the polls should coalesce in a more definitive manner.
The poll was conducted Aug. 22 to Aug. 24 among 1,000 adults.
